Virginia is Falling Short on Goals

Analysis finds little evidence of improvement in Bay cleanup pledged by Virginia last year. For example, the Commonwealth promised to fence livestock from farm streams on 89,500 new acres in three years, but only 13 percent of the milestone goal has been reached so far. Holden Legislation a Concern

CBF appreciates Congressman Tim Holden's willingness to strengthen H.R. 5509. However, CBF remains concerned that ultimately, HR 5509 does not ensure that the pollution reduction from agriculture needed to get the Bay and its tributaries cleaned up by 2025 will be made.

A new CBF report finds that Chesapeake Bay oysters are developing natural resistance to the diseases that have so devastated the Bay’s oyster population in recent decades and calls for additional sanctuaries to repopulate the species.

The Trust for Public Land, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and the City of Virginia Beach are partnering to conserve one of the largest undeveloped tracts remaining on the Lynnhaven waterfront.

The U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee voted to approve the Chesapeake Clean Water Act and forward it on to entire Senate, bringing us one step closer to our ultimate goal of full passage by both Houses of Congress.
