Welcome to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s Hokies for the Bay web page!

Bill Roth, award-winning radio and television announcer of Virginia Tech sports and the longtime "Voice of the Hokies," is a strong supporter of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and Hokies for the Bay.

Bill begins each Virginia Tech game broadcast with his signature refrain: "From the blue waters of the Chesapeake Bay to the hills of Tennessee, the Virginia Tech Hokies are on the air!"

"Over the years, I have found that opening refrain really strikes a chord with fans," Bill says. "I think it's because, like me, people across the region love the Chesapeake Bay. And Hokies everywhere can help in the effort to protect the Bay by supporting the work of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation."

During each game broadcast of Virginia Tech's 2009 football season, Bill will give radio listeners a Save the Bay tip and encourage fans to visit this website to learn more. Read or listen to the latest Bay tip or those from earlier broadcasts.

CBF is very active in Virginia, with more than 83,000 members, offices in Richmond and Norfolk, and a staff of more than 30 scientists, environmental educators, restoration, and other conservation professionals.

As a Virginia Tech student, alumnus, or fan, there are many ways you can help Save the Bay:

VIRGINIA TECH STUDENTS: More than 20 Virginia Tech students, alumni, and friends joined CBF on Oct. 24 to pick up a truckload of litter and debris along a mile of New River shoreline at McCoy Falls. Thanks to all for making the day a success and for making a difference for clean water! Check out our photos on Flickr.

Enter the "Save the Bay" t-shirt design contest for college students. Send in your design to help save the Bay and your college buddies could be wearing it next semester! Click here for contest details.

Other opportunities: Help organize a campus environmental forum, green film festival, local stream cleanup, campus restoration project, or "Bike for the Bay" benefit ride. Contact CBF’s Jess Barton to discuss possibilities: (804)780-1392 or jbarton@cbf.org

VIRGINIA TECH ALUMNI:  Ask your local Virginia Tech Alumni Club to volunteer for Clean the Bay Day, participate in a local restoration project, or sponsor a local school classroom on one of CBF’s award-winning outdoor field trips. Contact CBF’s Jess Barton to discuss possibilities: (804)780-1392 or jbarton@cbf.org
