Fully half of Virginia is drained by Chesapeake Bay rivers, and two-thirds of the state's population lives within the Bay watershed. From the farm fields of the Shenandoah Valley to the pinewoods of the Eastern Shore, for most Virginians the Bay is as close as the nearest creek or stream.

 Help Clean Virginia's Waterways

22nd ANNUAL CLEAN THE BAY DAY
Saturday, June 5, 2010
9 a.m. - 12 Noon

Fellow Virginians, you have done it again!

THANK YOU for your commitment to cleaner neighborhoods and better water quality in the waterways and shorelines leading to the Chesapeake Bay.

Nearly 7,000 dedicated volunteers have registered for Clean the Bay Day, June 5, 2010. With a couple of exceptions, we are now at limit on the number of volunteers we can safely manage. Our on-line registration is now closed.

There are 3 opportunities remaining:

  • Norfolk: Join The Chesterfield Heights Civic League to clean and restore the community's shoreline and wetlands along the Elizabeth River.
Meet no later than 8:45am at the corner of Chesterfield Blvd and Majestic Ave, on the Norfolk side of the Campostella Bridge. Park along the street. E-mail Doug Clemons to RSVP;  douglas.clemons@med.nav or call 470-8063.

Boots and/or waders highly recommended as are sturdy work gloves. View their event locations map.

  • Chesapeake: cannot place any more people on foot, but if you have a kayak, johnboat, or canoe to bring for the cleanup, please call 757-382-6411.

  • CBF is proud to partner with JRAC & the 2010 James River Regional Cleanup Saturday, June 12,2010
Grab your boots and be one of hundreds of volunteers cleaning up sites that stretch from Appomattox County to Charles City County. Show your CBF support by collecting litter from the shorelines and waters of the James River and its tributaries. To register, visit www.jrac-va.org.

Get your 2010 Clean the Bay Day patches, posters, and t-shirts at our online store.
