Calling all water enthusiasts, beach and nature lovers, sea glass and fossil hunters, and fans of coastal literature.
The first International Beachcomber's Conference will bring leading field specialists and award-winning authors together to discuss all aspects of the beachcomb experience. A percentage of all proceeds will be donated to the
Box of Rain Foundation
and to the
Chesapeake Bay Foundation
.
Morning lectures and panel discussions are followed by afternoon workshops and field trips, a Saturday evening "Beachcomber Bash," artifact identification sessions and book signings. In addition, a Holiday Beach Arts Bazaar, open to both conference participants and the general public, will be held in an adjacent building,
Nationally-recognized environmentalists, paleontologists and marine biologists including former Baltimore Sun reporter and Chesapeake Bay specialist Tom Horton, Stephen Godfrey (Calvert Marine Museum) and Drew Ferrier ( Society for Ocean Sciences) will swap ideas on global warming, beach ecology and artifact identification with authors and photographers such as anthropologist Deacon Ritterbush (A Beachcomber's Odyssey), geologist Margaret Carruthers (Beach Stones), photographer Dave Harp (The Nanticoke), Richard LaMotte (Pure Sea Glass), and Chuck and Debbie Robinson (The Art of Shelling).
