Hampton Roads Staff
Christy Everett, Hampton Roads Director. Christy serves as the lead spokesperson for CBF in Hampton Roads, building and strengthening relationships with local governments, community leaders, etc. She also plays a leadership role in the development of CBF’s Hampton Roads workplan, from local outreach efforts to regional legislative engagement. She manages the programs and staff of the Hampton Roads office. Some of the key initiatives Christy has either developed, led or managed include the CBF partnership with NOAA and Nauticus on the Blue Planet Forum, our work with Lynnhaven NOW, our development of the living shoreline and shell recycling program for Norfolk and Williamsburg.
Sharon Smith, Clean the Bay Day Coordinator. Clean the Bay Day is one of the largest volunteer efforts in the Hampton Roads area. Under Sharon’s leadership, it has grown from 5,000 to over 7,000. This past year we had 29 partnering organizations, from local governments to Boy Scout troops, and 7,000 volunteers participating. Sharon’s success is accomplished on a part-time basis.
Chris Moore, Science Advocate. Chris monitors and advises citizens and organizations on proposed permits, regulations, and policy that affect fisheries, land use and water quality in Hampton Roads. Chris works with over 300 families that participate in CBF’s Oyster Gardening program. This year, Chris initiated our adult volunteer training and engagement program called VoiCeS (Volunteers as Chesapeake Stewards.) Chris captains our water quality/restoration vessel Bay Oyster and manages the CBF Hampton Roads Volunteer Speakers Bureau (we participate in approximately 40 speaking engagements annually, including fairs and festivals).
Charlene Ihrig, Administrative Assistant. Charlene is the ‘front desk’ for CBF Hampton Roads, responding to the inquiries we receive from Hampton Roads citizens, legislators, academic partners, and more. In addition, Charlene helps coordinate local volunteers for our Oyster Restoration efforts.
Andrea Moran, Communications Specialist. Andrea is responsible for all of our media work in the Hampton Roads community. This past year, Andrea’s efforts yielded an exponential increase in media coverage of CBF Hampton Roads activities, efforts and issues.
Kate Wilson, Major Gifts Officer. Kate is our local fundraiser, working with donors, community and corporate foundations, and more in support of the many CBF Hampton Roads activities. Oyster Farm Staff
Tommy Leggett, Oyster Restoration and Fisheries Scientist. Tommy manages the Virginia Oyster Restoration Center where CBF produces about six million oysters every year. Jackie Harmon, Oyster Specialist. Jackie not only assists Tommy in the work of the Oyster Restoration Center, but also runs our shell recycling program on the Virginia Peninsula. Currently, we work with several local restaurants to reclaim their shell to use in our spat-on-shell oyster restoration program.
