More than half of the state lies within the watershed. Pennsylvania contains two major Bay watersheds: the Potomac, with 1,600 square miles; and the Susquehanna, with 21,000 square miles. Together, they total 40% of the entire watershed.

EDUCATION

The Susquehanna Watershed Education Program (SWEP), offered through the Pennsylvania office of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), introduces teachers and students to aquatic ecosystems through daily, hands-on experience on waterways throughout the Susquehanna River watershed.

Another educational opportunity provided by CBF was Expedition Susquehanna, a 30-day paddle down the Susquehanna River — from New York, through Pennsylvania, to the Chesapeake Bay — during the summer of 2006. CBF took 11 future agricultural leaders on is journey of a lifetime.
