Fully half of Virginia is drained by Chesapeake Bay rivers, and two-thirds of the state's population lives within the Bay watershed. From the farm fields of the Shenandoah Valley to the pinewoods of the Eastern Shore, for most Virginians the Bay is as close as the nearest creek or stream.

Volunteer

Why should I volunteer?
Clean the Bay Day is a fun, hands-on way to be part of the solution.

Who should volunteer?
Everyone! Clean the Bay Day is full of real people, making a visible difference in the Chesapeake Bay. It’s a great way for families, communities, and boaters to get involved.

Parental Permission form:
Volunteers under 18 years of age are required to have a parental permission form signed by their parent/guardian if the parent/guardian is not volunteering with child on Clean the Bay Day. The signed form must be given to the adult designated to supervise the child for the day. The designated adult must turn the form over to the site Zone Captain on the day of the event.

Download Parental Permission Form* (126KB)

*If you do not have Adobe Acrobat software to open the document, download it for free.

What should I wear?
Hard sole, closed-toe shoes and clothes appropriate to weather conditions and site conditions. Long pants and long sleeved-shirts are recommended for rough terrain, brambles, etc.

What should I bring?
Work gloves, a hat, water, sunscreen, bug spray, and allergy medication (if you have allergies to bee stings, etc). Clean the Bay Day is a rain or shine event. Dress appropriately for the weather. And don't forget to bring your friends!

How do I sign up?
Select from the list below the city, county or park where you would like to volunteer and complete the online form. The local coordinator will get back to you with details including a specific cleanup assignment as the Clean the Bay Day approaches.

Note: site assignments are not made by CBF.
