The Chesapeake Bay Foundation meets all the BBB Wise Giving Alliance's Standards for Charity Accountability. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance is a national charity monitoring organization affiliated with the Better Business Bureau system. The Alliance completes comprehensive, in-depth evaluations of a charity's governance, fund raising practices, solicitations, and informational materials, as well as how it spends its money.

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is named a "Top-Rated Charity" by the American Institute of Philanthropy (now known as CharityWatch). Top-rated charities receive high grades from CharityWatch. This watchdog evaluates charities based on the portion of total expenses actually spent on charitable programs, and on the organization's fundraising efficiency.
