About the Chesapeake Bay Foundation
CBF is the nation’s leading regional environmental organization and the largest, independent conservation organization working to improve the health and productivity of the Chesapeake Bay. Established in 1967, CBF has a staff of approximately 170 employees working across the watershed, from the Annapolis headquarters and three state offices in Harrisburg, Annapolis and Richmond, to the southern Bay office in Norfolk, the Eastern Shore office in Salisbury, Maryland and the Anacostia office in Washington, D.C. CBF also operates 16 outdoor environmental education-training centers located in Pennsylvania, Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.
The organization has an annual budget of approximately $21 million. Support comes from more than 200,000 active members, several hundred foundations and corporations, generous individuals, and tuition revenues from field trips.
Context of the Position
The Clean the Bay Day Outreach Intern will assist the Clean the Bay Day Coordinator and other employees in the Hampton Roads office with several potential projects. The job duties may include:
- Supporting the Clean the Bay Day Coordinator with outreach for CBF’s successful Clean the Bay Day program.
- Assisting with implementation of the Clean the Bay Day plan for expansion into other geographic areas of Virginia; may include updating current recruitment materials and CTBD website and PowerPoint presentations, and development of additional databases for targeted recruitment of new partners and volunteers.
- Assisting with distribution of Clean the Bay Day printed materials as needed to partners and sponsors.
- Assisting with promoting Clean the Bay Day and public education of other Bay issues through print, radio, TV, electronic media, special events, and personal presentations.
Professional Experience and Qualifications
Successful candidate must have self-initiative, the ability to work independently, as well as with a team, and excellent written and oral communication skills. We seek a committed, creative thinker interested in learning about the Chesapeake Bay as well as furthering the Foundation’s mission to "Save the Bay.”
CBF is willing to work with the successful candidate on receiving college credit from his/her school for the work he/she performs as an intern at CBF, if the successful candidate so desires. In addition, the position pays $7.25/hour and will involve a maximum of 256 hours. Start and end dates are negotiable, but the successful candidate would begin work in January 2018 and complete the hours in June 2018, working roughly 12 hours a week. Some weekends may be required.
