The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, the Mid-Atlantic’s largest regional conservation organization, seeks an Unpaid Digital Media Intern in its Hampton Roads Office located in Virginia Beach.

About the Chesapeake Bay Foundation

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is the largest regional non-profit conservation organization working solely to save the Bay. Established in 1967, CBF has a staff of approximately 185 employees working in offices in Annapolis Maryland; Richmond and VA Beach, Virginia; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Washington, D.C., and in 15 field education program locations. Our staff and volunteer corps work throughout the region educating students and adults, advocating for clean water polices, restoring waterways, and litigating when necessary.

CBF's headquarters office in Annapolis, MD is the Philip Merrill Environmental Center, the world’s first U.S. Green Build Council’s LEED platinum building. In 2014, CBF opened The Brock Environmental Center in Virginia Beach, VA. The Brock Center is one of the most energy efficient, environmentally smart buildings in the world.

Context of the Position

The Digital Media Intern will assist CBF staff with social media, video, and photo projects. The Digital Media Intern will report to the Hampton Roads Director and work closely with the Virginia Communications Coordinator.

Essential Functions

•    Assist with photographing CBF events and programs in Hampton Roads
•    Record and edit video
•    Help gather content for social media posts
•    Working with the Hampton Roads Director and Virginia Communications Coordinator, develop story ideas for Hampton Roads programs
•    Under supervision, conduct background research
•    Assist staff by taking notes at CBF events and conservation meetings
•    Aid in executing plans to promote CBF programs and initiatives 

Professional Experience and Qualifications

Successful candidate must be working toward an undergraduate or graduate degree and possess a background in communications, journalism, photography and video production, and/or public relations or a related field. The ideal candidate will be an experienced photographer with knowledge of photo-editing software, and an experienced videographer with knowledge of video-editing software. Experience with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are desired. Self-initiative, creativity, the ability to work independently, as well as with a team, and excellent written and oral communication skills are required. We seek a committed, creative thinker who is interested in learning about the Chesapeake Bay as well as furthering the Foundation’s mission to “Save the Bay.”
