Pennsylvania 2018 General Assembly Update

Check back for updates on Pennsylvania's legislative session.

February 8, 2018 Update

Pennsylvania's General Assembly opened the second half of its two-year session on January 22. We are working on several key priorities to ensure all Pennsylvanians can enjoy the healthy waters they deserve.

A quick snapshot on recent legislation we're working to influence—

Senate Bill 658 (Yaw) designates the Eastern hellbender as the official amphibian of Pennsylvania. The bill is currently in the House State Government Committee. CBF supports this legislation, as it was drafted by CBF student leaders and highlights the importance of clean and cool local streams.

Senate Bill 792 (Alloway) sets lawn fertilizer application rates and requires certain registrations, licensures, and inspection fees. CBF supports this bill and is working to improve it.

A Local Government Stormwater Management Package, introduced by Rep. Everett, would allow local governments to assess fees for stormwater management activities and facilities without establishing a municipal authority. These bills were sent to the Senate Local Government Committee on January 30. CBF supports this package.

Governor Wolf released his proposed 2018-19 budget on February 6. CBF is encouraged by slight increases in investments that protect and restore Pennsylvania's rivers and streams and will continue fighting for greater, sustainable investments in the right places and on the right practices to get Pennsylvania back on track.
