How to Get Started

Do a site survey of your property (this can be a simple sketch done on graph paper).

Learn more about native plant communities:

• Take a walk in your neighborhood, do research on-line, visit local parks and natural areas
• Visit native plant gardens
• Go on a plant identification field trip at your local nature center (if they don’t offer one, ask the naturalists if they would be willing to lead one!)
• Use field guides
• Include your family in creating your Bay Friendly Landscape
• Volunteer and learn with CBF and other organizations by doing hands-on restoration
• Design and plant your Bay-Friendly Landscape
