Shell Shaking (MD)

Thu, 21 Apr, 2016 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Break a sweat and help save the Bay— join CBF in cleaning the "homes" of the next generation of Chesapeake Bay oysters! Help restore the Chesapeake's native oyster population by cleaning oyster shells (we call it "shell shaking") by shaking off the dirt and debris so baby oysters can successfully grow on them.

Shell shaking is critical in our oyster restoration efforts. Without cleaning the oyster shells, we could potentially lose millions of healthy larvae as they attach to debris, rather than the shell, and are later washed out into the silt.

This event is a bit of a workout, but a fun hands-on experience. With lifting involved, it is not recommended for individuals with a bad back or other health concerns. A tour of CBF's oyster restoration center will follow the shell shaking.

Please RSVP to Pat Beall at PBeall@cbf.org or 443-482-2065.
