2017 "DC on the Half Shell"

Thank you to our generous sponsors, Host Committee, Honorary Committee, our event chairs Katie and David Leavy, and all of our guests for their support of DC on the Half Shell! More than 500 guests came to Union Market on February 27, 2017 to enjoy delicious Bay cuisine, toast CBF's 50th Anniversary, and honor Marriott International as CBF's Conservationist of the Year.

We are thrilled that this event raised more than $700,000 towards CBF's programs to restore and protect the Chesapeake Bay.Thanks to this support, this year CBF will:

  •  Plant 20 million juvenile oysters on sanctuary reefs in Maryland and Virginia—once mature, each will filter up to 50 gallons of water a day!

  • Inspire over 35,000 students and teachers through CBF’s award- winning environmental education programs.

  • Advocate for science-based management of the Bay's fisheries, including oysters, menhaden, and blue crabs.

  • Plant more than 17,000 trees across the watershed.

AND, all 9,600 oyster shells from the event were brought back to CBF's Maryland Oyster Restoration Center to be used on sanctuary reefs in the Bay.
