CBF: Annual Crab Survey Numbers Suggest Need to Maintain Regulations

(RICHMOND, VA)—"The results of the survey are a mixed bag, but they show a continuing positive trend overall for the health of the Chesapeake Bay blue crab."

CBF Issues Statement on the Importance of the Federal Partnership in Continuing Bay Recovery

(ANNAPOLIS, MD)—"The Chesapeake Bay defines us! Its improvement is a source of great pride to all 18 million of us who live in the Bay watershed. But its recovery is fragile. The federal partner must not give up now!"

CBF President William C. Baker issued this statement on the importance of maintaining a federal partnership as the Bay continues to improve. The proposed federal budget would eliminate funding for the Chesapeake Bay Program and reduce funding for the Environmental Protection Agency by 30 percent. Read More

Oyster Reports Show Restoration Efforts Are Working, but Much Work Remains

(ANNAPOLIS, MD)—"Much as we can be pleased with our work so far, we can't stop. Maryland must designate the next two tributaries for large-scale oyster restoration, as Virginia already has done. We must meet our obligations under the Bay Agreement to improve oyster habitat."

Alison Colden, CBF Maryland Fisheries Scientist, issued this statement following the release of reports outlining the progress made by Maryland and Virginia in recent years to increase significant acreage of oyster reefs. Read More
