CBF Educator Charles Parks. Charles Parks
Port Isobel Island Education Center Captain

Charles ParksTenure at CBF: 1996–2014

Charles Parks passed away Wednesday, October 15, at his home on Tangier Island.

CBF's education program and staff have been blessed with Charles since 1996 when he came on board as Captain at Port Isobel. He was a commercial waterman for 27 years prior to joining the CBF education staff. Charles lived on Tangier Island all his life. He loved the close-knit community and would never have imagined living anywhere else. As a native of Tangier, Charles brought a unique dimension to our programs. He shared with students his first-hand experience of the Bay's fisheries, his love for the Bay, and the way of life on Tangier. As a CBF captain, Charles always enjoyed educating and talking with student and adult groups aboard the Loni Carol II.
His Bay knowledge, experience as a waterman, and storied fishing skills are what many will recall when sharing memories of Charles. He shared his wide smile, fun jokes, and sweet singing voice with thousands of students, teachers, and staff in his tenure with us.

He will be missed greatly but his kind spirit and gentle ways will be remembered fondly.

Charles is survived by his wife Cindy, "the love of his life," and two sons and two grandsons.

His obituary can be found at
