CBF Statement on Gov. Bob McDonnell's Remarks at the Environment Virginia Conference

Ann Jennings, Chesapeake Bay Foundation Virginia Executive Director, issued the following statement regarding remarks made by Governor Bob McDonnell today at the Environment Virginia Conference at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA:

We applaud Governor McDonnell's call for meeting Virginia's constitutional mandate"our solemn duty"to protect the Commonwealth's natural resources. The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is pleased that Governor McDonnell is calling for targeted funding, innovation, new regulations, and incentive programs to further reduce nitrogen and phosphorus pollution to achieve a clean Chesapeake Bay. The governor clearly realizes the economic opportunities presented by a clean and healthy Bay.  As Governor McDonnell indicated, Virginia has made much progress in reducing nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater treatment plants, but more must be done to reduce runoff pollution. That will be challenging, but we look forward to the opportunity to work collaboratively with the McDonnell Administration to achieve a clean Bay.
