CBF Commends HRPDC for Tabling Bay Lawsuit

(NORFOLK, VA)Christy Everett, Chesapeake Bay Foundation Hampton Roads Director, issued this statement in response to the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission's (HRPDC) decision to seek more information from EPA and the state rather than pursue legal action against the new Bay restoration initiative.

"The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) commends the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission for its decision to engage in a dialogue with the EPA and the state, rather than proceed to litigation over the new federal-state Chesapeake Bay restoration initiative. A healthy Chesapeake Bay and clean waterways will benefit everyone in Hampton Roads, which is so dependent upon water-related business, tourism, and recreation to support the quality of life we enjoy. We have nearly 15 years to meet the pollution reduction targets of the new cleanup initiative and there is no question that working together we can do it. CBF stands ready and willing to work with all stakeholders to ensure the cleanup proceeds in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner."
