Chesapeake Bay Foundation Statement Regarding Approval of Bluff Point Development by Northumberland

(RICHMOND, VA.)Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) Virginia Senior Attorney Peggy Sanner issued this statement following the Northumberland County Board of Supervisors' approval last night of the Bluff Point development project:

"The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is very disappointed the Northumberland County Board of Supervisors approved this massive 898-acre project, much of which will be built in sensitive areas designated for conservation by the county's comprehensive plan. We believe the board's action, taken without formal public notice, will result in significant negative impacts on water quality and wildlife in local streams and the Chesapeake Bay.

"CBF is committed to participating in all future stages of the project, including permit reviews before the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, Department of Environmental Quality, and others, to ensure the environment is protected to the maximum extent. We are reviewing all other options and will take action as appropriate."
