Chesapeake Bay Foundation Welcomes Appointment of Gina MacCarthy to EPA

(ANNAPOLIS, MD)—Chesapeake Bay Foundation President William C. Baker issued the following statement regarding the appointment by President Obama of Gina McCarthy as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA):

"Gina McCarthy has established a solid record of environmental protection, balanced rulemaking, and bipartisan collaboration during her career at EPA and in state government. Her collaborative approach to environmental protection will be critical to the continued success of the Chesapeake Clean Water Blueprint, the federal-state-local initiative to restore the Chesapeake Bay.

"We congratulate Ms. McCarthy on her appointment and trust Congress will move swiftly to confirm her. CBF looks forward to working with her on the continued implementation of President Obama's 2009 executive order to restore the Bay.

"We particularly encourage her to maintain strong support for the Chesapeake Bay Program, the Clean Water State Revolving Fund, and the small grants programs that have provided critical resources to local governments as they implement the Chesapeake Clean Water Blueprint."
