CBF Praises Natural Resource Agency Appointments
(RICHMOND, VA)—Chesapeake Bay Foundation Virginia Executive Director Ann Jennings issued this statement regarding the appointments of John Bull as Commissioner of the Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) and Clyde Cristman as Director of the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR):
"The Chesapeake Bay Foundation applauds Gov. McAuliffe and Secretary Ward for these excellent appointments to two of Virginia's most important natural resource agencies.
"As the public face of VMRC since 2007 working in partnership with prior Commissioner Travelstead, John Bull demonstrated a willingness to engage diverse fisheries stakeholders and garnered the respect of conservation organizations, the fishing industry, and members of the public. We believe he will continue the thoughtful management of the Commission, an agency with a wide range of marine resource responsibilities, including prudent management of blue crabs, oysters, and menhaden.
"Mr. Cristman is a veteran of state government with great expertise in natural resource, budget, and legislative matters. That knowledge and experience will serve DCR well as the lead agency for state efforts to reduce agricultural runoff, manage state parks, and expand environmental education. As with Mr. Bull, Clyde Cristman has demonstrated a willingness to facilitate common-ground solutions on important natural resource matters.
"CBF looks forward to continuing to work with both appointees in their new roles."
