CBF Issues Statement Following DNR Decision on Striped Bass Gill Net Fishery

(ANNAPOLIS, MD)—Bill Goldsborough, Senior Fisheries Scientist at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), issued this statement following a meeting today concerning the striped bass gill net fishery:

"There is uncertainty concerning the extent of illegal harvesting, and the number of fish poached. Given DNR's enforcement efforts as well as its commitment to apply any further illegal catch to the quota, CBF supports DNR's decision to open the gill net fishery for a limited time and to conduct a fully accountable gill net fishery."
