CBF Statement on Governor O'Malley's Budget
(ANNAPOLIS, MD)—Chesapeake Bay Foundation Maryland Executive Director Kim Coble made the following statement concerning the release of Governor O'Malley's budget containing $20 million in funding for the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund.
"The Chesapeake Bay Foundation commends Governor O'Malley for following through on his commitment to reducing pollution from urban, suburban, and agricultural runoff. Last May, the governor set specific milestones for reducing pollution over the next two years, and this funding is an integral part of that plan.
"With more than 25 years of failure to reach pollution reduction goals, EPA and the states are developing a court-ordered pollution budget that must be met. There will be accountability, measurement, and consequences for failure. The governor's action in funding the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Trust Fund demonstrates his commitment to achieving the goals Maryland has set.
"CBF applauds Governor O'Malley's leadership in efforts to restore the Chesapeake Bay."
