Gearing Up for the 25th Annual Clean the Bay Day
Since 1989, Clean the Bay Day has engaged more than 122,000 volunteers, who have removed approximately 5.8 million pounds of debris from nearly 5,500 miles of shoreline. CBF's Hampton Roads Director Christy Everett recaps a kick-off event in honor of this special day complete with extensive oyster restoration in the Lafayette. One of the best tools for educating government leaders about the Chesapeake Bay is the Bay itself. That's why we recently hosted a group of Virginia legislators on a two-day retreat to our Port Isobel Island. CBF's Virginia Executive Director Ann Jennings fills us in on the ensuing adventures where participants set crab pots, discussed the impacts of excess nutrients and sediment on our Bay, and braved rough seas.
