What do the Chesapeake Bay, Patagonia, and Equatorial Guinea have in common?

All have been selected by a team of world-class photographers to be the beneficiary of intensive photographic and advocacy action. Over the next few months, some of the world's most accomplished photographers will fan out across the Bay's 64,000 square mile watershed to capture its beauty, communities, and environmental issues.

CBF is teaming up with the International League of Conservation Photographers (iLCP) to highlight the importance of the federal Chesapeake Clean Water Act (CCWA) through photographs, video, and stories from across the Chesapeake Bay watershed—from Cooperstown, New York to southwestern Virginia.

The material will also provide the compelling visual media necessary to facilitate news coverage of the urgency of the CCWA.

ON STORY-TELLING
"There is no question that part of the glue that holds societies together and that helps us understand our place in the planetary puzzle is the art of story-telling. The proverbial 'camp fire' [sic] around which stories of our common ancestry, the challenges we face, and the ideas we share, have, generation to generation, been passed through stories. Today's technology allows us to gather around the global campfire in new and meaningful ways and skilled artists and story tellers have become key players to move the conservation agenda by helping 'connect the dots'."
- Cristina Mittermeier, iLCP President

CCWA is a bi-partisan, historic step forward in protecting the Chesapeake Bay and the rivers and streams that feed it. This is the strongest legislation to protect a single body of water in the history of our country and gets us back on track to cleaning up the Bay.

The photographers will be posting photos and blog updates throughout the expedition—you can follow along here.

iLCP's mission is to further environmental and cultural conservation through ethical photography. iLCP believes that awe-inspiring photography is a powerful force for the environment, especially when paired with the collaboration of committed scientists, politicians, religious leaders, and policy makers. They plan to replace environmental indifference with a new culture of stewardship and passion for our beautiful planet.
