Oyster reef ballsDuring this three-day event, we will build concrete reef balls designed to help restore fish habitat in Smoots Bay on the Potomac River. The reef balls will be relocated to the bottom of Smoots Bay, where they will be intermixed with various woody structures in order to provide an ideal habitat for various fish species, such as our native largemouth bass. Come for one day or come for all three! Building reef balls is a fun and exciting way to help restore our Chesapeake Bay.

Reef ball construction consist of two stages:

  1. Building approximately 30 reef balls using fiberglass molds and concrete; and
  2. Breakdown or "hatching" open of those reef ball molds and organizing materials for the next event.

This is a hands on event, recommended for adults and teenagers over the age of 16.

Please wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get wet and dirty, and bring gloves, a water bottle, and lunch.

Please contact Pat Beall at or 443-482-2065 with questions.
