May 31, 2014
9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.
Landenberg, Pa

CBF and North Creek Nursery are partnering to offer a Rain Garden Workshop and garden tour at North Creek Nursery’s Landenberg farm. Attendees will learn how to properly site and design a rain garden, choose appropriate native plant species, and install and maintain the rain garden to manage stormwater runoff on their property.

The presentation will begin at the New Garden Township building, with CBF’s Kate Austin discussing how practices that manage stormwater at home protect our local rivers and streams and the Bay, and North Creek Nursery’s Claudia West and Kevin Staso presenting how to design and build a rain garden. We will then tour the rain garden in front of New Garden Township’s building, before walking over to North Creek Nursery’s Landenberg farm, where we will tour several more demonstration rain gardens and see a wide variety of native plants suited for rain gardens.

The tour will be followed by a boxed lunch picnic at the farm.  Space is limited, so register today!

June 7, 2014
9:00 a.m.-Noon
Lancaster, Pa

Join CBF, Penn State, and the Grandview Chase Condo Association to plant 600 native perennials in a naturalized meadow along a stream!

The Grandview Chase community has been working with Penn State's "Greening the Lower Susquehanna" initiative to develop a 'green master plan' for the landscape in their community. After a series of community input meetings, partner LandStudies has developed a plan for the community that involves a riparian buffer, native meadow plantings, walking trails, and tree plantings to improve the stream's health and provide a beautiful, natural community space for residents and neighbors.

Volunteers are needed to kick off the new landscape planting by installing 600 plants. Organizations, families and individuals are welcome.  Register today!

June 14, 2014
9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Middletown, Pa

Join Londonderry Township, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Penn State Extension’s "Greening the Lower Susquehanna Initiative" to plant 600 trees along Swatara Creek. Individuals, families, scout troops, church groups, and school groups are welcome for this fun summer event to celebrate National Rivers Month.

Help us save Pennsylvania streams, rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay! After the 2011 floods, Londonderry Township purchased several properties along the Swatara Creek through the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. These properties frequently flood and make poor locations for houses or other buildings. The Township was awarded a PA American Water Grant to restore these properties to their natural wooded state, creating a riparian buffer that will help improve the water quality of the Swatara Creek and help prevent flooding in the future. Last fall, volunteers planted over 600 trees and the Township won two awards for the project! Join us for round two!  Register today!
