Emily grew up in Glenn Dale, Maryland, exploring suburban creeks and streams, surprising her parents with the occasional turtle, toad, or tree frog. Her appreciation for aquatic ecosystems ranges from freshwater streams to salt marshes and especially to the brackish waters of the Chesapeake Bay. It was this passion that directed her studies at Salisbury University, with classes such as wetland ecology, estuarine biology, and topics in Chesapeake Bay studies, as well as research on wetland and Bay policy.
After college, Emily became a member of the Chesapeake Conservation Corps, working with the Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in both environmental education and stewardship. Emily's position providing curriculum and field trip support at Dickinson College is what brought her to Pennsylvania, where she fell in love with a whole new part of the watershed, going on to lead canoe programs with CBF's Susquehanna Watershed Environmental Education Program (SWEEP). In her role as the Pennsylvania Student Leadership Coordinator, Emily is able to share her passion for our watershed with student leaders, supporting them in advancing advocacy, action, and awareness on watershed issues in their own communities.
