Chesapeake Bay Foundation Applauds Governor's Budget Amendments Aimed at Clean Water

(RICHMOND, VA)Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) Virginia Executive Director Ann Jennings issued this statement on Governor Bob McDonnell's proposed biennial budget amendments, which include $216.9 million for water quality improvements and Chesapeake Bay cleanup efforts:

"The Chesapeake Bay Foundation heartily applauds Governor McDonnell for including nearly $217 million in additional funding or bonds for clean water in the biennial budget. This funding is absolutely critical for the Commonwealth to continue making progress to achieve its Chesapeake Bay cleanup goals. Particularly important is the governor's proposal to include an additional $101 million to assist localities in upgrading sewage treatment plants, projects that are required by state law and that many localities have already committed to or begun.

"Clean water in local streams, rivers, and the Bay not only will boost the environment, public health, and the state's economy but provide a better quality of life for our children and grandchildren. Virginia's Chesapeake Bay Clean Water Blueprint will achieve this. CBF urges the General Assembly to approve the governor's amendments without delay."
