Registration deadline: May 13, 2013

CBF recently restored a wetland through grading and by creating shallow pools on Hidden Hollow Farm owned by the Wade family. The wetland will filter sediment and nutrient runoff from the adjacent landowner's cornfields before it flows into Antietam Creek. Hidden Hollow Farm recently converted to a grazing farm, planting all cropland for permanent pasture. This project will improve water quality in Antietam Creek and provide excellent wildlife habitat. Volunteers will plant over 2,000 wetland grasses and 350 native shrubs to restore a three-acre wetland. Partners include the Washington County Soil Conservation District, the Maryland Grazers Network, Sweetbay Conservation, and Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC). Funding for this project was provided through the Chesapeake Bay Trust and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Landowner Incentive Program.

Wash to Save the Bay (MD)
Find a participating carwash

All day

Sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Carwash Association. This event speaks to the important role professional carwashing plays in keeping soaps, road salts, and other chemicals out of our waterways. The water used by MCA members is captured, treated on-site, and often re-used in the wash process. The amount of water used to wash a car is far less than that consumed in driveway washing, where the discharge goes right into the storm water system. Professional carwashes can help Save the Bay™.

A portion of all sales on June 1 will be donated to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.

For more information and to find participating carwashes please visit http://www.mcacarwash.org/
