Mallard Point Living Shoreline and Buffer Project
Join the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Urban Restoration Team as we install a 718-foot living shoreline at the Mallard Point Association along the Hampton River.
This project will create 3,312.75 square feet of oyster habitat, enhance or add 15,946 square feet of low- and high-marsh wetland habitat, and convert 15,774 square feet of turfgrass into a native vegetated buffer. The living shoreline installation and buffer installation is scheduled for spring 2027.
This is a significant undertaking, and CBF’s Urban Restoration Team needs your help to ensure its success! We will be installing 3,000 oyster sill structures, 28 coconut fiber coir logs (16″ x 12″), and deploying 400 Natrx basalt shell bags, along with 550 bushels of loose oyster shells. Additionally, we will plant 15,500 wetland plugs and 9,667 perennial grasses and flowers within the buffer area. So, skip the gym for a day or two and help us get the job done!
A special shoutout to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Blocker Foundation, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, and other private donors for supporting this effort, as well as all of our wonderful partners from the Living Shoreline Collaborative.
