Webinars
Timely, science-based virtual events that delight and inform.
From toxic pavement sealants to plants for butterflies, from Virginia’s wetlands to rising Bay temperatures—there’s always something new to explore and learn about in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Whether it’s a connection between critters and habitat that we weren’t aware of, a research paper that changes our thinking, or an innovative technology or practice that shows promise for promoting cleaner water, CBF experts (and sometimes special guests!) are bringing exciting Bay topics directly to you.

Virginia 2026 General Assembly Preview Webinar
The Virginia General Assembly is gearing up for another fast-paced legislative session, and CBF staff are preparing to work on key initiatives that will benefit water quality for all Virginians. And we’ll need advocates like you every step of the way.
Join us to learn about the policies we are advocating for during the 2026 session as well as what you can do to support our efforts and urge legislators to reduce pollution, prioritize the restoration of Virginia’s rivers and streams, and ensure future generations can enjoy our natural resources and the Bay.
Why Virginia Should Ban Toxic Pavement Sealants
Toxic pavement sealants are used to protect asphalt and are applied to streets, driveways, and playgrounds. Unfortunately, these pavement sealants are toxic, containing about 1,000 times more PAHs (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) than asphalt-based sealants. Hear our speakers describe the harm done by PAHs, what cost-effective alternatives exist, and why CBF will be working on this issue during the 2024 General Assembly session.
Defending Virginia’s Wetlands
In this webinar we look at the value of wetlands, the protections they receive in Virginia, and why these protections are at risk.
We’re All in Hot Water
In this webinar, CBF Senior Scientist Doug Meyers and Seth Coffman of Trout Unlimited discuss what’s driving water temperatures upward and the ecological implications for the watershed.
Creating a Backyard Buffet for Birds, Bees, and Butterflies
Your yard can be an oasis, a rest area for birds, bees, and butterflies to fuel up and raise their young. Few of us have a blank slate to work with, so this webinar takes you through practical steps of assessing your yard, prioritizing changes, and planting with a purpose in the Chesapeake Bay region.
